The 1978-1980 Pontiac Grand Am is one of the Pontiac’s forgotten G-bodies.
This nice example features a Pontiac 400 cid out of a 1978 Trans Am, and a 200R4 automatic transmission with a 2500 stall converter. The power goes to the rear tires through a 8.5-inch Buick Grand National axle featuring a posi and 3.70 gears.
The owner also installed the Trans Am’s hood scoop, and used an early Pontiac hood tach.
It’s best quarter mile time is 13.2 @ 102 mph with 3.42 gears in the rear. The owner hopes to hit the mid twelves with new gears and some drag radials.
He states that the car is fun to drive, and a lot of people ask him what is it.
