Pontiac built the Sunbird from 1976-1994, and offered a turbo version from 1984-1990. None of them made the power that this 1980 Sunbird does.

The 1978 and 1979 Sunbird came with an optional 305 V8, but for 1980 it only offered the 3.8L V6, and a 2.5L I4. The builder of this car swapped out the factory engine for a 4.3L V6.

The Specs:

  • 4.3 Chevrolet V6
  • Chevrolet aluminum heads
  • Competition Cams roller camshaft
  • 11.0 Compression Ratio
  • S400 SX Turbo
  • CSU Blow Through Carburetor
  • TH350 Automatic Transmission
  • Auburn Pro Differential with 3.23 Gears

The builder believes that the engine can produce 500 wheel horsepower at 15-16 psi, and the fuel system is good to 1,000 horsepower. With an approximate 2,750 pound weight, this car flys. The S400 SX T4 Turbo (from turbodaves.com)  comes in at approximately 3,700 RPM and acts like nitrous when it does.
